USHL Goalie of the Week: Akira Schmid

This week the USHL Goalie of the Week is Akira Schmid of the Sioux City Musketeers.
Schmid wins our Goalie of the Week award for the second time this season. Only Muskegon Lumberjack, Jan Skorpik was able to post a shutout this week. Akira’s shutout however was just slightly more convincing (heavy emphasis on the slightlyness of it). Schmid kept the door securely closed while his teammates did their work on the other end against the Sioux Falls Stampede. The Musketeers scored a goal each period (with the addition of a spare in the second) to put four Sioux City goals on the board. Akira faced and denied all 20 of the shots the Stampede threw at him.
Akira’s statistics now stand at:
W:19 L:13 T:0 SO:3 GAA:2.07 SV%:0.919
Akira Schmid(20) is a native of Bern Switzerland. His youth hockey was played with Langnau, SCL Tigers and the Swiss National team. This season he made the transition to North America and began play in the Canadian Juniors. After a brief stint with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL, Schmid played two games with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the NAHL before joining the Omaha Lancers. He was drafted in 2018, in the fifth round (#136 overall) by the New Jersey Devils (Unsigned).
