We all know the pride and accomplishments of last year’s Elite Team Captain Jordan Court boasted with the Eels Junior Program over the last 4 seasons. He was a herald and seasoned veteran player who played every shift, every period and every game with the intensity and heart of a lion. He was a homegrown Eel from his beginnings as a peewee, bantam, and U16 and U 18 midget, as a Junior player in the Empire & USP3 Divisions and ultimately in the top team – the Elite Division. Jordan was truly an Eel and now has reached his dream as he advanced this year to play NCAA Division 3 men’s college hockey at Neumann University.
Following in his younger brother’s footsteps is Jake Court. Jake too has been an Eel his entire life. In fact General Manager Frank Scarpaci was his first coach when Jake put on his first set of hockey skates in “learn to play” on Saturday mornings many years ago. He was there when Jake mature and develop also through the Eels youth program from Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, Midget and High School Hockey. Funny thing about Jake he was always the number 1 or 2nd leading scorer on the team.
Premier Head coach Frankie Scarpaci knows both Court boys very well having coached Jordan for 4+ years and he echoes, “with Jake we will see an entirely different player. He is more finesse player. He is a smother skater. And has great hands. During Pre Season training camp you can see Jake really uses his speed to his advantage. He is a bit lighter than Jordan but that does not stop him from going into the corners and impressively he wins the lose puck battles along the boards and always seems to come up with the puck.
Elite Coach Greg Sears commented, “he loves Jake’s acceleration and explosive speed. He loves to drive to the net. He has that insatiable appetite to score and you can see it as he is constantly shooting at the net. He has great vision and you need those intangibles and skill set combined if you are going to be a goal scorer in this league,”
GM Scarpaci concludes that it is amazing how much Jake has already caught on to the speed and toughness in Juniors. He is a shifty player and has a high hockey IQ. He knows that Jake, like his brother, bleed Eels and he will leave everything on the ice. More than many of the guys coming in, Jake already knows and appreciates the competitive landscape of the teams in our division and conference. He appreciates what it to be an Eel. He has to. After all is there a more die hard Eel than his dad. Jason Court? Or as he is known as “Mr. Court” Jake has the motivation, drive, determination and dedication to make his own “Court Mark” in the USPHL and on the Eels program. We are thrilled that he joined us this season.
