Forward Owen Bohn (pronounced BAHN) came to Wenatchee in September of 2019, called up from his San Jose Jr. Sharks U18AAA team and he appeared in one game in the Town Toyota Center before returning to California. Now, he’s set to return to the Wenatchee Valley to skate with the Wild for the 2021-22 season.

Born and raised in Morgan Hill, CA about a half hour drive southeast from San Jose on Highway 101, Bohn was on skates by the time he was three and playing hockey shortly after. “My mom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba so ever since I can remember I have been playing hockey”, he recalls.

He got his second callup from the Wild in February of 2020 and picked up his first Junior A goal and added an assist in the two road games he played in. The 6’0 155 lb. forward reported to Wenatchee in preparation for the 2020-21 season that never materialized. He’s playing back east currently but eagerly anticipates his return to the Valley. “I look forward to the loyal fans and playing out of the Town Toyota Center”, he said enthusiastically.  “As well as being able to go and eat with my teammates.”

Wenatchee Head Coach Chris Clark: “We are thrilled to have Owen coming back to Wenatchee next season. Owen is another player we have had here a few times the past couple of seasons with the Jr. Sharks program and are excited to see his game translate to the junior hockey level. Owen has a real high compete level and is not afraid to get to the tough areas to score goals. We feel Owen has a bright future and can’t wait to help in his development.”

Despite his lifelong proximity to the Shark Tank (home of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks), Bohn’s fan allegiance lies elsewhere. “I root for the Sharks because they are my home team, but my favorite team is the Winnipeg Jets.” It’s  a Calgary Flames winger named Matthew Tkachuk who he patterns his game after. “He’s a player that is physical but can also make skilled plays and make the players around him better.”

Wild General Manager Bliss Littler: “Owen has worked hard at his game the last few years. He had a good extended training camp here in Wenatchee this fall. We are excited to get Owen up here this fall. We think his foot speed will cause problems for opposing teams.”

Players most often compete at the Junior A level in pursuit of a specific goal, and Bohn is no different. “One of my goals is to be able to play Division 1 hockey and take advantage of playing hockey and getting my degree at the same time”, he muses. “I would like to study Business in college. At this point I am unsure on what I want to do specifically but I know it will be something where I’m not stuck at a desk the whole time.”

Wild Associate Head Coach Leigh Mendelson: “We’re excited to have Owen back in a Wild uniform this Fall. He’s been part of our organization as an AP in 2019 and participated in our extended preseason in 2020. Owen has a solid skill set combined with a very competitive nature. We expect him to give us energy and contribute on the scoresheet regularly. Coming from the Junior Sharks organization we know he’s been coached well and will be a good teammate.”

In addition to his hockey career Bohn has participated in a number of sports though baseball was one that he really gravitated to. Now, he tends to focus his attention more on golf during the hockey offseason. He did grow up with a pool in the backyard, and he took full advantage. “By the time I was a year old I was jumping off the diving board and swimming on my own.”
