Two of Wenatchee’s development team programs were in action this last week to kick off the 2021 portion of their schedules.

The U18 Wolves were at Peaks Arena in Provo, UT to face the West Coast Renegades in a three-game trip, including a pair of games on Friday Jan. 8th. Thursday’s game opened the series with a 3-1 win for the Wolves, powered by a pair of Drake Flynn goals and one from Ian Williams. Goalie Braeden Bovey collected the victory in net. Coach Jordan McTaggart was pleased overall. “It was a good win after a 12-hour travel day to come out with the victory. We’re proud of how hard they worked to get the win.”

The early game Friday saw the Wolves fall 5-3, with goals coming from Andrew Alonzo, Rylan Marcum, and Ian Williams. Bouncing back later that evening, Kolby Hennessy scored twice and defenseman Evan Fritze added one as well as the Wolves picked up another 3-1 win in front of another solid outing from Braeden Bovey. The Wolves improve to 7-5-0 on the season. Coach McTaggart noted, “The line of Rivers Ball, Darrien Cathey, and Kolby Hennessy got better as the games went on and had a strong finish Friday night with 5 points as a line.”

The U16 Wilderness had a full slate of action, beginning with a pair of games in Utah against the West Coast Renegades 16U team. Goalie Luke Neilson returned to action after missing the first seven due to injury. The opening game on Wednesday in Provo went to the Renegades by a final of 4-3. Wilderness goals came from Loghan Weber, Kage Ballard, and Will Somers. Wenatchee earned the split with a 4-2 win on Thursday at the Olympic Oval in Kearns, UT with Somers scoring twice and goals coming from Grig Kaagan and Stu Carruthers. Goalie Xaus Landry picked up the win.

The Wilderness traveled from Utah on Friday and headed to Coeur d’Alene, ID in preparation for a pair of games against the North Idaho Knights on Saturday. The first game saw a barrage of goals, ending in an 8-6 win for Wenatchee. Luke Pizzey and Kage Ballard scored two goals apiece, with Loghan Weber, Roman Templeton, Bobby Anselmo, and Will Somers rounding out the scoring. Weber stayed hot, extending his scoring streak by collecting a point in each game over the weekend. Xaus Landry picked up his second win of the trip. In the final game, the Knights squeezed out a 4-3 win over the Wilderness with Spencer Stenholm striking twice, and defenseman Connor Jensen tallying as well. Goaltender Luke Neilson had a solid showing in just his second game back.

Up next, both the U18 Wolves and U16 Wilderness travel to Omaha, NE for the Under Armour Championship Series Showcase from Jan.22–24.
